Meet David Kracov

Animation sculptor David Kracov began his artistic career at a very young age., and his first sketches
were of monsters from a stop-motion animation film.

Originally from Boston, MA, Kracov received a bachelor of fine arts degree in two and three dimensional
animation from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design, as well as minors in illustration, special
effects, and apparel design. While at RISD, he got his first job with a local special make-up effects studio,
creating live-action special effects for low-budget horror films.

In 1991, David moved to California and began his career in special effects animation, working as an
animator for such notable names as Ralph Bakshi (Cool World), Disney (Beauty and the Beast), Don
Bluth Studios (Troll in Central Park, Thumbelina, The Pebble and the Penguin), and Rich Animation (The
Swan Princess.)  He then began to sculpt animated characters, creating  maquettes used as
three-dimensional references for the animators working on each production. I

In April 1993, David Kracov exhibited his line of sculptures and one-of-a-kind chess sets at a gallery
specializing in animation art.  A buyer for Warner Bros stores who happened upon the gallery  was
impressed with  Kracov's sculptures and  Kracov was commissioned to create a limited edition chess set
for the Warner Bros. Studio Stores. Shortly thereafter Kracov was contacted by Disney Studios to create
sculptures of individual characters as well as chess sets for galleries at  Disneyland, Walt Disney World,
and Tokyo Disneyland.

Until 1996, all sculpture editions created by David were each, individually hand-sculpted. Although this
was a labor-intensive task, David believed that each piece should be original and different. Like an
original oil painting by master painters, where each brush stroke can be seen, leaving the viewer with a
sense of the artist's thought process, the sculptures created by David show each and every fingerprint.
The colors of the sculptures were the actual colors of the clay used by David. Like paints, the clays are
mixed to create an endless palette of colors.

David has limited his one-of-a-kind original sculptures to private commissions only, although he still
designs and sculpts every piece in his collections. The hand-sculpted originals are some of the most
sought-after sculptures David has created. Due to the scarcity of pieces sculpted from 1993 - 96, the
value of all sculptures has increased over 350%. A chess set that originally sold for $700.00 in 1993, is
now valued at over $24,000.00.

In 1994, David started Kracov Creations Inc. with the objective of creating pieces ranging from single
character limited editions to 7-foot vertical chess sets. Kracov has been privately commissioned by many
of Hollywood's most notable producers, directors, and actors to create original one-of-a-kind sculptures
for their personal collections. These collectors include Mel Gibson, Richard, Donner, Joel Silver, Chuck
Jones, and Ruth Clampett. His work is also included in the collections of such prominent organizations as
the UCLA Children's Hospital. David has also donated his original works to help such charities as the
Grammy sponsored MusiCares and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
