Computerization came to the world of animation more than a decade ago, and with it the virtual extinction of original, hand painted celluloids (cels). In the early days of animation, each frame was hand drawn, then hand painted and outlines inked before being individually photographed. Even though there were 24 to 36 cels per second of film, relatively few of these original production drawings or cels remain. Those that have survived are bought and sold on the secondary market with pricing relative to character, pose and positioning, popularity of the film, and, of course, condition of the artwork.
